Buying and printing labels

A label reaches an order one of three ways, depending on the provider:

  • The marketplace already made it. Mercari issues its own label the moment a buyer pays. CellerHub just fetches and prints it — nothing is bought.
  • CellerHub buys it for you. Shippo and EasyPost quote live rates for a parcel and buy the one you (or CellerHub, picking the cheapest) choose.
  • You buy it yourself, then tell CellerHub. Pirate Ship has no API: you export the orders that need labels as a CSV, buy the postage on Pirate Ship’s own site, then import their tracking export back into CellerHub.

eBay’s own labels are also planned for a future release — see that page for the current state.

When you open the ship dialog for an order, CellerHub works out a default label source in this order:

  1. Mercari’s own label, if Mercari already issued one for that sale.
  2. The default label provider you’ve set for that channel, in Settings → Shipping & labels.
  3. Any other connected provider that can buy a label.
  4. Pirate Ship’s CSV export, as the fallback that always works because it needs no account of its own.

You can always override the provider for a single order from the ship dialog, row by row.

Add your credentials once, in Settings → Shipping & labels. A saved key is never shown back to you in full — only its last few characters — so pasting a new key there always replaces the old one; leaving the field blank keeps what you already saved.

Buying a label always tells the channel first, and only records the label and tracking in CellerHub if the channel accepted it — so CellerHub never shows a buyer tracking that doesn’t actually exist. If a purchase is refused, the order stays unshipped, but if postage was already paid for, that label is kept rather than thrown away.

You can void a label you no longer need, as long as the order hasn’t already been marked shipped and told to the marketplace — once a channel and its buyer have seen tracking, CellerHub can’t take that back, so voiding is refused at that point.
