The price ladder

A price ladder drops a listing’s price on its own, a little at a time, until it sells or hits a floor you set. It’s the closest thing CellerHub has to a “drop $2 every 4 days” setting.

Open a listing’s detail view and find its Price ladder section. Three fields:

  • Drop by — a dollar amount, not a percentage. This is a fixed amount taken off the price each time, e.g. 2.00.
  • Every (days) — how many days to wait between drops. At least 1.
  • Never below — the floor. The ladder will never take the price below this, no matter how long it runs.

Press Start (or Update, if a ladder is already running) to save it. Stop turns it off.

Setting a ladder doesn’t change the price right away — nothing happens on the channel until the first scheduled drop.

A few rules that are easy to assume differently, so worth stating exactly:

  • The first drop waits a full interval, just like every later one. If you set a 4-day interval, the price doesn’t drop the moment you save — it waits 4 days for the first drop too.
  • A drop that would go past the floor lands exactly on the floor instead — never below it, and it never gets skipped either.
  • A listing already at or under its floor is left alone. The ladder only ever lowers a price; it will never raise one back up to the floor.
  • A listing that isn’t live doesn’t step. If a listing ends, gets unpublished, or is part of a variant group, its ladder pauses. If it comes back (a relist, for example), the ladder catches up and steps right away rather than waiting out another full interval.

On the Listings page, a listing with a ladder running shows a small badge next to its price:

  • Stepping — shows the next drop date, the next price, and the floor.
  • At floor — it’s reached its floor and stopped.
  • Paused — the ladder would run, but the listing isn’t currently live.

A Laddering filter and a count in the toolbar let you see everything currently laddering at a glance. The product page’s Info tab shows the same status, per channel, under the Price field.

A channel account can also carry its own default ladder, so you don’t have to set one on every listing by hand. Unlike a listing’s own ladder, the account default is expressed as percentages — a drop of a percent of the current price, and a floor set as your recorded cost plus a markup percentage.

Because that floor is calculated from cost, a product with no cost recorded gets no account-level ladder — there’s nothing to build a floor from, so CellerHub leaves it alone rather than guess. Record a cost on the product to bring it under the account default (or set a ladder on the listing directly, which doesn’t need a cost).

A listing’s own ladder, once set, always overrides the account default for that listing.
